| The Nagari writing, known equally as Devanagari, appeared in its classical form
in the 13 Th century. It was used in Central India, mainly in the city of Benares,
helped in the translation of Hindi, local language, and the Sanscrito, erudite and
sacred language.
This writing was adopted in Bengal and in Europe to impress the holy texts in
Sanscito and Prakito, in the beginning of the 19 Th century. After it was frequently
after used even it the regions were it was less known. It overpassed little by little all
the local writings in the Sanskrit impression.
The Nagary presents itself near to the types used in Calcutta, in the beginning of the
19 Th century. |
