| The Brahminee writing was used in the 3 Rd century BC to transcribe the
Asoka´s emperor edicts. It was engraved in pillars and rocks spread in all India
territory, except in the Northeast region where the inscriptions were traced out in
Kharostic characters. This kind of writing was initially called Magadha, name of a
country near Patna, in Ganges River, central region of the Asoka Empire.
In the religious texts the name Brahami designates the ancient writing of classical
India and has been invented by God Brahma " Creator of all arts and sciences."
