| The name Rune, of the Germanic Rune signifies secret; it is applied to the
characters that Germanic applied before its conversion to Christianity. It can be
distinguish the Scandinavian runes, used in Norway, in Sweden and Denmark; the
German runes used by north Elba Saxons and the Anglo-Saxons runes.
The runes nearly all of them graved over rocks and tumulus was not ever useful for
writing.
It failed into disuse in German in 8 Th century and in England in the x century, as
soon as this people adopted the christianism and the Latin writing. This writing kept
itself in Scandinavia until the 14 Th century. In some Sweden provinces we can still
find countryman knowing how to read the local runes, in the beginning of the 20 Th
century.
This alphabet came from a mixture of Latin and Greek letters; it was probably
invented by Gothic installed in the North Sea Northeast, in the junctian of the
Hellenic and Roman civilisation, in the beginning of the 3 Rd century. |
