PortoCartoon calls humorists to CLEAN THE PLANET in 2018

– Amália and Woody Allen are Special Awards for Caricature

“Clean the Planet” is the theme chosen for the 20th PortoCartoon-World Festival, organized by the Portuguese Printing Press Museum.

The invitation to participate is made to cartoonists around the world and features the emblematic figures of Amália Rodrigues and Woody Allen for Special Caricature Awards.

The press conference to announce the themes took place this morning (19/12) at the Port and Douro Wine Institute in a Press Conference that was attended by the Director of the Portuguese Printing Press Museum / PortoCartoon, Luiz Humberto Marcos, Paulo Magalhães in representation of Zero – Healthy Terrestrial System Association, sculptors Acácio Carvalho, Carlos Barreira, Carlos Marques, Norberto Jorge, Ruy Anahory and Rui Ferro and the artist in Residence at Casa Wolinski, winner of PortoCartoon 2012 and of the Special Caricature Award about Charlie Chaplin in 2016, Cau Gomez.

As can be read in the Regulations of PortoCartoon 2018: “The disorderly growth of cities, the use of polluting energy, uncontrolled industrialization, global warming, garbage and lack of water are making the world less and less healthy. Following the call of the Let’s Do It Foundation, we must make the Earth a clean and healthy planet. (…) For all this, it is necessary the intervention of humor on a world scale. “

The appeal of the Let’s Do It Foundation fully tunes with the goals of PortoCartoon. As well as with the Zero – Healthy Terrestrial System Association, who joined the project and will be partner of this 20th edition of the contest.
Cartoonists can submit their works until February 28, 2018.

It is also important to remember that the voting for the PortoCartoon 2017 Public Prize closes on December 31. The winning artist will have an author exhibition in the 2018 edition of the contest.

Amália Rodrigues and Woody Allen

Following the line begun in 2013, with the introduction of this field of Caricature in PortoCartoon, we chose for 2018 two world icons: the fado singer Amália Rodrigues (1920-1999) and the filmmaker Woody Allen. Due to the Prize dedicated to the artist, Amália Rodrigues Foundation associated itself to PortoCartoon 2018.

Acclaimed internationally as the “Queen of Fado”, the Portuguese artist was one of the most brilliant female singers of the 20th century and a true ambassador of Lusophone culture on all continents. Across the world, her live performances sold out and thrilled mythical audiences like the Canecão carioca or the Parisian Olympia. She sold more than 30 million records and the recognition of Fado as “intangible heritage of humanity” (UNESCO, 2011) is very much due to her voice. Besides being a fado singer, Amália Rodrigues was also an actress and singer of other musical genres of popular tradition.

The iconic figure of Woody Allen is mixed with the international film culture. He made dozens of films and he participated as an actor in some of them. His baffling neurotic characters continue to amaze with the nonsense and daring of the dialogues. Especially in New York, where he is also practicing his inseparable clarinet, but also in European cities such as London, Paris or Barcelona, Allen makes cinema a restless inspiration about modern society. And he just launched a new movie.

Two decades, new contest

With the celebration of 20 years of existence, PortoCartoon launches a new contest: PortoCartoon Youth Contest.
This new contest is for portuguese students between the ages of 15 and 25, encouraging them to exercise reflection, imagination and humorous representation on current issues.
PortoCartoon Youth Competition is organized by the Portuguese Printing Press Museum, along with the Ministry of Education / General Direction of Education.
The reception of works occurs from December 20 to February 28, 2018.
Students can participate individually or collectively (class), as indicated in the Regulations.

para LIMPAR O PLANETA em 2018

– Amália e Woody Allen são prémios especiais de caricatura

“Limpar o Planeta” é o tema escolhido para o XX PortoCartoon-World Festival, organizado pelo Museu Nacional da Imprensa.

O convite à participação é lançado aos cartunistas de todo o mundo e apresenta as figuras emblemáticas de Amália Rodrigues e Woody Allen para Prémios Especiais de Caricatura.

A conferência de imprensa de anúncio dos temas decorreu esta manhã no Instituto de Vinhos do Douro e do Porto – IVDP e contou com a presença do Diretor do Museu Nacional da Imprensa/PortoCartoon, Luiz Humberto Marcos, do representante da Zero – Associação Sistema Terrestre, Paulo Magalhães, dos escultores Acácio Carvalho, Carlos Barreira, Carlos Marques, Norberto Jorge, Ruy Anahory e Rui Ferro e do artista em Residência na Casa Wolinski, vencedor do PortoCartoon 2012 e do Prémio Especial de Caricatura sobre Charlie Chaplin em 2016, Cau Gomez.

Como se pode ler no Regulamento do PortoCartoon 2018: “O crescimento desordenado das cidades, o uso de energias poluentes, a industrialização descontrolada, o aquecimento global, o lixo e a falta de água estão a tornar o mundo cada vez menos saudável. Seguindo o apelo da Fundação Let’s Do It, é preciso fazer da Terra um planeta limpo e saudável. (…) Por tudo isso, impõe-se a intervenção do humor à escala mundial.”

O apelo da fundação Let’s Do It sintoniza plenamente com os objetivos do PortoCartoon. Assim como com os da Zero – Associação Sistema Terrestre Saudável, que se juntou ao projeto e será parceira desta 20.ª edição do certame.

Os cartoonistas podem submeter os seus trabalhos até ao dia 28 de fevereiro de 2018.
Importa também relembrar que decorre a votação para o Prémio Público do PortoCartoon 2017, até 31 de dezembro. O artista vencedor terá uma exposição de autor na edição de 2018 do certame.

Seguindo a linha iniciada em 2013, com a introdução deste campo da Caricatura no PortoCartoon, escolhemos para 2018 dois ícones mundiais: a fadista Amália Rodrigues (1920-1999) e o cineasta Woody Allen. No âmbito do Prémio dedicado à fadista, a Fundação Amália Rodrigues associou-se ao PortoCartoon 2018.

Aclamada internacionalmente como a “Rainha do Fado”, a artista portuguesa foi uma das mais brilhantes cantoras do século XX e uma verdadeira embaixadora da cultura lusófona em todos os continentes. Pelo mundo fora, as suas actuações ao vivo esgotaram e empolgaram plateias míticas como o Canecão carioca ou o Olympia parisiense. Vendeu mais de 30 milhões de discos e o reconhecimento do Fado como “património imaterial da humanidade” (UNESCO, 2011) deve-se muito à sua voz. Além de fadista, Amália Rodrigues foi também atriz e cantora de outros géneros musicais de tradição popular.

A figura icónica de Woody Allen confunde-se com a cultura cinematográfica internacional. Realizou dezenas de filmes e em muitos deles foi ator. As suas desconcertantes personagens neuróticas continuam a surpreender pelo nonsense e ousadia dos diálogos. Preferencialmente em Nova Iorque, onde vai também praticando o seu inseparável clarinete, mas também em cidades europeias como Londres, Paris ou Barcelona, Allen faz do cinema uma inspiração inquieta sobre a sociedade moderna. E acaba de lançar uma nova película.

Duas décadas, novo concurso

Com a celebração dos 20 anos de existência, o PortoCartoon apresenta uma novidade: o Concurso PortoCartoon Juvenil.

Este novo certame é direcionado aos estudantes entre os 15 e os 25 anos, incentivando-os ao exercício de reflexão, imaginação e representação humorística sobre temas da atualidade.

O Concurso PortoCartoon Juvenil é organizado pelo Museu Nacional da Imprensa, em articulação com o Ministério da Educação/Direção Geral da Educação.
A receção de trabalhos decorre de 20 de dezembro a 28 de fevereiro de 2018.
Os jovens podem participar a título individual ou coletivo (turma), como indica o Regulamento.

Mais de meia centena de cartoons integram a exposição “Água Viva/Terra Viva”, que abre no dia 8/12, em Castanheira de Pera, numa iniciativa do Museu Nacional da Imprensa.

Através do humor, o Museu mostra assim a sua solidariedade com uma das regiões fortemente abalada pelo “incêndio de Pedrógão” e também marcada pela seca extrema, que tem atingido o país nos últimos meses.

A mostra estará patente na galeria da Casa do Tempo e fará parte do evento “Natal na Aldeia”, que se destina às populações dos concelhos afetados pelos incêndios, com particular incidência nas crianças.

Integram a exposição cartoons de diferentes países de todos os continentes. Argentina, Alemanha, Áustria, Bélgica, Brasil, Canadá, Coreia do Sul, Escócia, Espanha, EUA, França, Indonésia, Itália, México, Moçambique, Polónia, Portugal, Turquia e Ucrânia são alguns dos países representados.

O PortoCartoon é considerado um dos três principais certames de humor a nível mundial e tem procurando, desde 1999, lançar temas de relevo na sociedade, que impliquem reflexão e intervenção.

A escassez de água é um problema grave a nível nacional e internacional, tal como tem sido demonstrado pelas alterações climáticas do planeta. Sem água não há vida. Importa, por isso, refletir. E o humor arguto e incisivo dos artistas representados na exposição, vai ao encontro disso mesmo.

A mostra “Água Viva/Terra Viva”, promovida pelo Município de Castanheira de Pera, poderá ser vista até 6 de janeiro de 2018.
