PortoCartoon calls humorists to CLEAN THE PLANET in 2018– Amália and Woody Allen are Special Awards for Caricature“Clean the Planet” is the theme chosen for the 20th PortoCartoon-World Festival, organized by the Portuguese Printing Press Museum. The invitation to participate is made to cartoonists around the world and features the emblematic figures of Amália Rodrigues and Woody Allen for Special Caricature Awards. The press conference to announce the themes took place this morning (19/12) at the Port and Douro Wine Institute in a Press Conference that was attended by the Director of the Portuguese Printing Press Museum / PortoCartoon, Luiz Humberto Marcos, Paulo Magalhães in representation of Zero – Healthy Terrestrial System Association, sculptors Acácio Carvalho, Carlos Barreira, Carlos Marques, Norberto Jorge, Ruy Anahory and Rui Ferro and the artist in Residence at Casa Wolinski, winner of PortoCartoon 2012 and of the Special Caricature Award about Charlie Chaplin in 2016, Cau Gomez. As can be read in the Regulations of PortoCartoon 2018: “The disorderly growth of cities, the use of polluting energy, uncontrolled industrialization, global warming, garbage and lack of water are making the world less and less healthy. Following the call of the Let’s Do It Foundation, we must make the Earth a clean and healthy planet. (…) For all this, it is necessary the intervention of humor on a world scale. “ The appeal of the Let’s Do It Foundation fully tunes with the goals of PortoCartoon. As well as with the Zero – Healthy Terrestrial System Association, who joined the project and will be partner of this 20th edition of the contest. It is also important to remember that the voting for the PortoCartoon 2017 Public Prize closes on December 31. The winning artist will have an author exhibition in the 2018 edition of the contest. |
Amália Rodrigues and Woody AllenFollowing the line begun in 2013, with the introduction of this field of Caricature in PortoCartoon, we chose for 2018 two world icons: the fado singer Amália Rodrigues (1920-1999) and the filmmaker Woody Allen. Due to the Prize dedicated to the artist, Amália Rodrigues Foundation associated itself to PortoCartoon 2018.
Two decades, new contestWith the celebration of 20 years of existence, PortoCartoon launches a new contest: PortoCartoon Youth Contest.
